Charity & donation item: Harmony Project
“The Harmony Project is an award-winning research-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that targets at-risk youth in underserved areas of Los Angeles. We promote positive youth development through on-going year-round music lessons and ensemble participation.
Our mission is:
• To promote the healthy growth and development of children through the study, practice and performance of music.
• To build healthier communities by investing in the positive development of children through music.
• To develop children as musical ambassadors of peace, hope and understanding amongst people of diverse cultures, backgrounds and beliefs.
We accomplish this by: Bringing quality music instruction and ensemble playing to children who otherwise would not have access to it; complementing music education with supporting resources and opportunities; and, fostering a community of families that actively support their children’s growth and development.”
Donation Items: Harmony Project has asked that people donate new/used CDs (especially classical, jazz, Latin) – as long as lyrics are kid-friendly, new/used sheet music, new music supplies*: clarinet and saxophone reeds, rosin, strings.
*Idea of partnering with Stein on Vine and Old Town Music in Pasadena. We list them as a location to buy the above items in publicity materials, and see if they will give a percentage of the sales back to $2 Shows/Harmony Project if more than one item is purchased. (not confirmed)
Description of the vibe and feel of this show: an array of contemporary classical music, solos and duets composed by some of the performers and 20th century composers. Acoustic.
