CARL STONE

Carl Stone is one of the pioneers of live computer music, and has been hailed by the Village Voice as “the king of sampling.” and “one of the best composers living in (the USA) today.” He has used computers in live performance since 1986. Stone was born in Los Angeles and now divides his time between California and Japan. He studied composition at the California Institute of the Arts with Morton Subotnick and James Tenney and has composed electro-acoustic music almost exclusively since 1972. His works have been performed in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and the Near East. In addition to his schedule of performance, composition and touring, he is on the faculty of the Information Media Technology Department, School of Information Science and Technology at Chukyo University in Japan.

JOSEPH HAMMER

Since 1980 Hammer has operated in a plethora of under-the-radar units such as Dinosaurs With Horns, Joe & Joe, and Points of Friction, but ‘I Love You, Please Love Me Too’ is about the best entry portal to his multi-dimensional world. With a plunderphonic, Cagean appreciation for the infinite textures of AM radio and “mid century sci fi” Joseph weaves arrestingly hypnotic and experimental 3D collages which have utterly commanded our attention. The systolic stream of looped samples bends time and space with a vividly visual and enveloping intimacy, wrapping listeners in an improvised vortex of acousmatic teases and reference points which seem to fold into an inert aural blind spot point just out of view behind the ears.

Some of the bands I play/have played with: Tortoise, Chicago Underground, Isotope 217º, New Horizons Ensemble, A Cushicle, SpliceCat, Moment Of Inertia, TriColor, Brian Blade Fellowship, Joey DeFrancesco Trio, Jeff Ballard Fairgrounds, Powerhouse Sound, Fred Anderson Quartet, Joshua Redman Elastic Band, a.o. I sometimes lead projects of my own: they usually are simply called “Jeff Parker” or “Jeff Parker _____ (trio, quartet, organ quartet, etc.) and may consist of myself performing alone or with small or large aggregates of various configurations…”

“Utopia” solo show by YI GAO

Born in 1987 in the city of Nanjing, China, Yi moved to the U.S.A. in 2007. She received her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 2012.

With a background in oriental painting, Yi has developed a love for traditional materials, handmade paper and raw pigments as media, exploring possibilities of combining new synthetics.

Her narrative playgrounds incorporate curious characters and landscapes transcending time and space. In this recent work, she portrays the sense of immediacy through poetic means within the subconscious mind. Yi’s paintings veil an impression of serenity enveloping a facade of unbridled emotional absurdity.

STEPHANIE LAK

Stephanie Lak resides in San Francisco, Ca. and is originally from Massachusetts. Her current performances are centered around sound collage, field recordings, restless electronics, tapes, objects, voice and video. She is a repeat collaborator, improvisational performer and multi-instramentalist who is an active multidisciplinary visual artist. As an artist, Stephanie is influenced by the natural world, a digital one and through video, paintings, sketchings and photos she captures, creates and designs interactions between the two.

ANDREA PENSADO

Andrea Pensado works with sound as a performer, programer and teacher. She has been using digital media and live interactive musical systems since 1995. She studied in Argentina and Poland. At first, she composed mainly for acoustic instruments. However, she felt gradually more attracted by different sound realms. Today, the abrasive digital noise of her improvisations is far away from her earlier pieces. Harsh dense layers of sounds, often interwoven with her voice, combine hybrid synthesis techniques to create a highly personal sound language, which reflects an intuitive, emotional and paradoxically also logical approach to music making. She currently lives in the US.
